A guaranteed port

The speed is not shared with rack neighbours: the stated bandwidth is entirely yours, in both directions at once. That is decisive for file delivery, streaming and scheduled backups.

From 1 to 10 Gbit/s

Port speed is chosen in the configurator and can be changed later — no need to order a new server just to upgrade the link.

Unmetered or packaged

Some options come unmetered, others with a package from 50 to 500 TB. The volume is stated in the port name, so there is nothing to work out.

What a wide channel gives you

Bandwidth matters not in itself but for the scenarios it makes possible without night windows and queues.

Static and media delivery

File mirrors, galleries, client updates: a ten-gigabit port lifts the ceiling that gigabit delivery runs into.

Video and streaming

Transcoding and stream delivery need steady outbound bandwidth, not just a CPU. Full duplex lets you pull the source and push to viewers at the same time.

Backups and replication

Moving terabytes between sites over gigabit takes hours; at ten gigabits the window shrinks several times over and fits into one night.

Peak load

A release, a sale or viral traffic will not hit the channel ceiling if the headroom was planned in advance.

Private network between servers

In the Netherlands your machines can additionally be joined into a private segment at 1 or 10 Gbit/s, and traffic inside it is not charged.

Where wide channels are available

A port of 1 Gbit/s and above is available in several countries. The widest choice of speeds and traffic volumes is in the Netherlands, where the build is assembled to order.

How to choose the port speed

Start with the load profile rather than the speed. If the project serves little static content and lives on API requests, gigabit is plenty and paying for ten makes no sense. But when the main traffic is files, video or images, bandwidth becomes the same kind of resource as CPU and disks, and a shortage shows immediately: delivery queues, growing response times, unhappy users.

The second guide is peak rather than average load. A channel is sized by peaks: if an ordinary day takes 300 Mbit/s and release hour takes 2 Gbit/s, buy for the second number. And a third point: some port options carry a monthly traffic package, others are unmetered. A package is cheaper when the volume is predictable; unmetered wins when spikes arrive without warning.

Frequently asked questions about wide channels

Is the port really dedicated?

Yes. The speed stated in the plan is not shared with other clients and runs in full duplex: receiving and sending at full speed simultaneously, not combined.

What is the difference between unmetered and a traffic package?

Unmetered means the volume is not counted at all and only the speed is limited. A package includes a monthly volume — 50, 100, 200, 250 or 500 TB — stated in the port name. Once it runs out the speed is not throttled; the excess is billed separately.

Can the port speed be changed later?

Yes, the port speed can be changed on a running server — no need to move to another machine. Write to support and we will recalculate the price and agree on a switching time.

Which servers offer a 10 Gbit/s channel?

Primarily the made-to-order configurations in the Netherlands and the ready Instant servers. The exact list is visible in the selection on this page — it is generated from billing.

Is traffic inside the private network counted?

No. If your servers are joined into a private segment, the exchange inside it is not billed and does not consume the external traffic package.
